“Do not fear, for I will be with you. I have called you by name. You are mine”
These are the lyrics that have been stuck in our campers’ heads this week. Our speaker and worship leader for the week, Zack Owens taught us the song Isaiah 43 on Monday, and the kids have been asking for it throughout the week. They hum or whistle the tune as they walk around camp. Each Gathering, when we sing it, they get a little louder as they become more familiar with the words.
This morning, when Zack started to strum the song on his guitar, a few of the campers even clapped because they were so excited to sing it again. As all the little voices joined together to sing, I’ve been reminded how important it is to fill our minds and hearts with good truth from the Lord. Knowing that the Lord is with us and that He loves us makes it possible for us not to fear.
Junior Action Camp is a different pace than our Teen Action Camp. Lots of campers have never been to camp before, and even those who have often get to try new things at camp. I have been so encouraged by their bravery and willingness to get out of their comfort zones.
Yesterday at the lake, every camper went either tubing or kneeboarding. Some did both! They all climbed off the boat afterward excited to tell their counselors and friends how much fun it was. Some of them were a little scared to try something new, but they put into action what they have been singing: “when you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”
May we all continually fill our hearts with God’s truth to comfort us.
